you can write like this

And then, when you hit the nail on the head, people will read it.

This kind of extreme view and language is not new to the discussion. But it used to be the right wing side, or that outer fringe there off. Those sketchy attack dogs.

The other side grew some teeth. And as long as the rap flows like in what Steve wrote I must admit: I think it is the right way to say these things.

Otherwise it won’t get heard. We tried and failed: Bush is in his second term.

mp3 phones

two years ago I read an article on the web in some engineering paper. Something littled “What is that sucking noise”. The way I remember it it said that most gadgets would get sucked into the phone. You have that one with you all the time. It has a CPU and a battery and a display. The PhoneCos have a huge need to get you to sign up again. New phones with more “features” do that. I would call this more “Freactures”.
First the phone killed the PDA, then it took a healthy slice out of the digicam market. Now mp3 players. And next there will be players for moving images.

With those phones there is always a money connection. The PhoneCos already get paid by the user. Big freaking difference
to the internet.

So all that boring mainstream content will try to get sold on those little devices.

"I admit it. Like anyone else with a decent-speed connection to the Internet, I collect a lot of images. For example, a few months ago, I described a program that looks through Yahoo! news images for pictures of Oregon and some of my favorite singing stars.

Oregon ?
Singing stars?

yeah, right. please!

iBook as in broken

Apple misc

After four nice days the GFX card in the brand new iBook died: The lower third of the screen is covered in vertical stripes. Probably some gfx memory issue.
On hold with Apple. 15 minutes of bad music ahead of me. Sigh.
I hope they just replace the graphics card while I wait. I need those 100GB of harddrive.
And it took me 4 hours to get them transfered to this machine. The official Apple Transfer was showing
me two hours of random progress bars. However in the end it had nothing out of my home directory transfered.
I can not believe that it takes fifteen minutes to get support from Apple. I paid 200 US$ “Apple Care”.
Ok, my gfx card can break in 3 years as well for this kind of money. Still.

telco companies did suck, and still do

misc

For seven years I had this phone number. It was the companies one. Which seemed to be easy and straight forward: Better than dragging two phones around, and most of my calls are business related. Well, there is no such thing as a free lunch:
Changing the phone number over in my name was easy enough. But an international calling plan I can only get after seven months. Which is ridicolous. Nothing short of it. In this case its Cingular, but I would guess all Telcos are the same mind numbing kafkaesk systems. As long things work they are just stupid and expensive. But if you leave the beaten path of the 90% majority then you will get very random service at best.
