2020 worked out well for China. Its economy grew. The population is happy that Covid is not a problem on the scale that it is in the rest of the world.
China has a long term strategy. Which does include to bringing Taiwan back under its influence.
One could speculate that some forces in Bejing see 2021 as a unique historic chance to make progress in this project:
China will continue to be on high alert, stand ready to deal with any threats and provocations, and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity
